Senior DevOps Engineer

Job summary

The Senior Cloud / DevOps Engineer supports a System of National Significance, delivering cloud engineering, infrastructure automation and Java application support to maintain system reliability, availability, performance and resilience. The role builds Infrastructure as Code and automated deployments, supports Java applications on Linux and Microsoft Azure Protected cloud environments, monitors cloud services, contributes to technical design and operational improvements, and mentors engineers.

Qualifications

• Practical experience with cloud implementations.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure Protected cloud environments.
• Experience with Elasticsearch.
• Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell.
• Experience troubleshooting Java applications in Linux or Java development.
• Experience creating and maintaining automated deployments.
• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, preferably Ansible and ARM.
• Current AGSVA NV1 security clearance.
• Ability to work full-time at the client's premises in Canberra.

Responsibilities

• Deliver cloud development and engineering activities with internal and external stakeholders.
• Build, maintain and improve Infrastructure as Code.
• Create and maintain automated deployments and self-service capabilities.
• Support and troubleshoot Java applications in Linux environments.
• Build and support Microsoft Azure services and technologies.
• Monitor cloud service health and utilisation using cloud-native tools.
• Tune performance and improve operations.
• Contribute practical input to complex technical designs.
• Own technologies within the area of specialisation.
• Investigate complex issues and escalate unresolved problems.
• Prepare reports, proposals and project documentation.
• Mentor and coach engineers and encourage knowledge sharing.
• Work onsite with the client to understand and address solution requirements.
