Job summary
ZayZoon is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join their fully remote team in Canada or the U.S. This role involves owning and developing infrastructure-as-code, instrumenting and analyzing metrics, building and optimizing pipelines, managing resource dependencies, projecting costs, ensuring security compliance, and collaborating with development and data engineering teams. The ideal candidate will have extensive AWS and cloud infrastructure experience, proficiency in IaC, containerization, and Python, and a strong focus on observability and performance.

Qualifications
- Possess 5+ years of cloud infrastructure engineering experience with deep, production-level AWS expertise.
- Have 2+ years of AWS experience, including certification and deployment of production applications.
- Demonstrate strong proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), specifically CloudFormation.
- Exhibit hands-on experience with containerization technologies such as Docker, ECS, and ECR.
- Possess experience with Python for development tooling and scripting.
- Have experience analyzing and acting on performance issues using observability platforms like OTel, and building dashboards with Grafana.
- Show a bias toward quickly building Proofs of Concept (POCs) and then scaling them into quality features.
- Demonstrate a strong desire to track and trace everything to proactively identify incident root causes and assist the team during issues.
Responsibilities
- Own and develop ZayZoon's infrastructure-as-code using CloudFormation, emphasizing serverless resources like ECS, Fargate, and Lambda.
- Instrument and analyze daily metrics for infrastructure performance and Ruby on Rails applications using AWS tooling (Athena, CloudTrail) and third-party observability platforms (Grafana, OTel, CloudWatch).
- Build, optimize, and maintain efficient pipelines (GitHub Actions, CodeDeploy, CodePipeline) to accelerate developer velocity, including modern deployment strategies like blue/green deployments and intelligent auto-scaling.
- Manage resource dependencies, particularly databases (RDS, Redshift), including upgrades, playbooks, and downtime planning.
- Collaborate with application developers to address infrastructure needs, transforming repeatable tasks into platform services.
- Project costs and implement AWS cost savings programs and reserved instances.
- Partner with risk and security teams to maintain SOC-2 and cybersecurity compliance, actively evaluating and remediating Critical and High CVEs across all services.
- Collaborate extensively with application developers on shared metrics, database performance, and load testing.
- Collaborate extensively with data engineers to facilitate data warehouse development, ELT, and ETL.
- Participate in the agile process, including sprint planning, story grooming, and standup.
- Champion SDLC and secure coding practices across all deliverables.
