Senior DevOps / Platform Engineer - GCP

Job summary

The Senior DevOps / Platform Engineer develops and operates a cloud platform focused on GCP, GKE, Kubernetes, and the reliability and security of production services. The role maintains and evolves infrastructure, automates delivery with Terraform, GitLab CI, and GitOps, and supports engineering teams through observability, incident response, access controls, backups, and disaster recovery.

• Hands-on experience independently operating production infrastructure and Kubernetes, including upgrades, troubleshooting, and disaster recovery.
• Experience with GCP services, including GKE, Compute Engine, VPC, IAM, and Cloud Storage; familiarity with Cloud SQL, Cloud Logging, and Cloud Monitoring.
• Terraform experience with modules, remote state, locking, importing existing resources, and safe infrastructure changes through CI.
• Strong Kubernetes and containerization knowledge, including workloads, services, ingress, storage, resource requests and limits, probes, autoscaling, RBAC, and NetworkPolicy.
• Experience with Helm and Kustomize.
• Strong Linux administration skills, preferably with Debian or Ubuntu.
• Strong networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP(S), TLS, routing, NAT, load balancing, and firewalls.
• Ability to troubleshoot connectivity across applications, Kubernetes clusters, networks, and cloud services.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines, preferably with GitLab CI, and understanding of Git and GitOps principles.
• Understanding of runner permissions, secrets protection, and production deployment controls.
• Automation skills with Bash and Python, including infrastructure scripts and API integrations.
• Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Cloud Monitoring.
• Experience operating PostgreSQL and familiarity with Redis and RabbitMQ, including availability, connections, replication or clustering, backup, and recovery.
• Understanding of cloud security, including least privilege, service accounts, Workload Identity, secrets management, network segmentation, and access auditing.
• Ability to independently deliver validated production infrastructure changes, explain technical trade-offs, and collaborate with engineering and security teams.
• Nice to have: experience with Flux CD, Argo CD, Ansible, HashiCorp Vault, OpenTelemetry, cloud or Kubernetes migrations, disaster recovery exercises, cost optimization, capacity planning, or financial and payment services.

Responsibilities

• Develop and operate GCP infrastructure, including GKE, virtual machines, networking, load balancers, storage, and managed services.
• Manage Terraform modules, state, dependencies, reproducible changes, and configuration drift.
• Operate Kubernetes clusters, including upgrades, autoscaling, workload placement, network policies, and resource allocation.
• Build CI/CD and GitOps workflows with GitLab CI, Flux, or Argo CD, including deployments, controlled releases, and rollbacks.
• Build observability for metrics, logs, traces, and actionable alerts; define and improve SLIs and SLOs with engineering teams.
• Troubleshoot production incidents and performance issues, perform root cause analysis, and prevent recurring failures.
• Implement access controls, service isolation, secrets management, and infrastructure audit controls.
• Maintain backups and validate recovery of critical data and infrastructure against agreed RPO and RTO.
• Help engineering teams prepare services for production through health checks, resource configuration, telemetry, and deployment procedures.
• Optimize cloud usage and costs while maintaining reliability.
• Maintain infrastructure documentation, runbooks, and recovery procedures.
