Senior Full Stack Engineer - Chief Technology Officer (CTO) - Platform Engineer

Job summary

The Senior Full Stack Engineer role is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of platform products and services for app.hsbc, focusing on balancing new development with the remediation of technical debt. Key responsibilities include setting technology strategy, enhancing engineering practices through CI/CD, and managing production support while ensuring compliance with cybersecurity and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Strong full-stack development and operations (DevOps) experience including Continuous Delivery practices
• Hands-on ability to code and deploy to production across at least two languages
• Relational database experience with PostgreSQL preferred
• Working knowledge of Unix and comfort operating across Unix and Windows environments
• Design and consume HTTP APIs such as REST
• Strong analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Proven technical leadership through raising engineering standards and coaching
• Strong production support capability including observability and incident management
• Manage multiple development teams and partner directly with Product Owners
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to make trade-offs across time, risk, and quality
• Working knowledge of cybersecurity and regulatory requirements

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end delivery across build test release and run for platform products and services
• Set and communicate technology strategy balancing business delivery with ongoing technical debt remediation
• Improve development pods and ways of working measured through fewer production incidents and increased release cadence
• Advance engineering excellence including automation, strong testing discipline, code quality, CI/CD maturity, and operational readiness
• Design reliability into services by addressing non-functional requirements including performance, resilience, observability, and recoverability
• Ensure safe predictable change through small regular non-breaking releases and operational acceptance
• Run production support rituals including incident response, problem management, and post-incident reviews
• Manage risk and control items proactively including vulnerabilities and governance processes
• Prioritize work with stakeholders including Technology Owner, Product Owner, and IT Security Officer
• Mentor colleagues to adopt platform capabilities through documentation and knowledge sharing
• Own objectives and key results (OKRs) with regular check-ins to track progress
• Communicate progress and impact by sharing updates and identifying broader contribution opportunities
