Senior Observability Engineer

Job summary

As a Senior Observability Engineer at IG Group, you will own the observability platforms and practices that provide real-time insights into system behavior, ensuring reliability and performance in a complex trading environment.

Qualifications

• Proven hands-on experience with Honeycomb or similar observability tool
• Strong practical experience implementing OpenTelemetry instrumentation
• Experience in complex, distributed microservices environments
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Practical experience with Terraform

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and evolve IG’s Honeycomb-centric observability platform
• Define platform standards, data models, and integration patterns for telemetry collection
• Drive OpenTelemetry adoption across engineering teams
• Partner with development teams to improve telemetry coverage
• Apply understanding of SLOs, burn rates, and alert triggers
• Join the support rota and incident response
• Lead post-incident reviews
• Mentor and upskill engineers on observability principles
• Develop training materials and best-practice guides
