Job summary

ActiveProspect is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to build self-service tooling, paved roads, and automation to accelerate product engineers. This role involves enhancing deployment, observability, security, and infrastructure operations, with a focus on judgment to prioritize and implement effective solutions.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years building, operating, and owning production infrastructure at scale.
  • Track record of platform work that improved engineer efficiency.
  • Deep expertise in AWS cloud environment, containers, and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes / EKS, Helm).
  • Strong command of CI/CD and GitOps (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD) and Git-based workflows.
  • Hands-on expertise with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and configuration automation.
  • Solid grasp of Linux (Ubuntu), production databases (PostgreSQL/RDS, DynamoDB, MySQL, MongoDB), and networking.
  • Track record of shipping and owning end-to-end outcomes, with an instinct for reusable solutions.
  • Treats developer experience as a product, measuring adoption and delivery metrics.
  • Strong systems-design judgment in ambiguous contexts, with ability to descope and push back on low-value work.
  • Experience leading incidents and operating customer-facing production environments with focus on uptime and service quality.
  • Uses AI agents and coding tools daily, critically reading output and building automation.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, with mentorship experience.
  • Security and reliability mindset for sensitive consumer data.
  • A 4-year degree in engineering or computer science.

Responsibilities

  • Own outcomes end-to-end, framing problems, designing solutions, shipping, and ensuring metric movement.
  • Descope to the most efficient version and prototype rapidly.
  • Build for self-service, treating the platform as a product for internal engineers.
  • Solve friction with reusable, well-documented tooling for broad adoption.
  • Own and evolve the paved road, setting direction for GitOps, Kubernetes (AWS EKS / ArgoCD), and serverless (AWS Lambda) patterns.
  • Lead migrations to secure, reliable, and cost-aware patterns.
  • Own reliability, leading incident response, blameless postmortems, and durable fixes.
  • Set on-call practices to meet SLAs without burnout.
  • Architect AI-driven leverage, designing and operating AI agents and automation for production.
  • Set guardrails, evaluations, and cost controls for AI systems.
  • Evolve team practices with changing AI tooling.
  • Own access, security, and compliance, designing credential and permission management.
  • Lead SOC 2 and GDPR work and remediation.
  • Reduce infrastructure cost through measurable initiatives.
  • Multiply the team by mentoring on judgment and systems thinking.
  • Write decision memos and ADRs, set standards, and share context across the organization.
