Senior Platform Engineer

Job summary

The Senior Platform Engineer builds and operates the AWS cloud foundation, infrastructure-as-code, delivery pipelines, and observability that help engineers ship software safely and frequently. The role also owns platform security, reliability, incident response, and cloud costs for software supporting data-center and capital projects, with enterprise standards including SOC 2 and ISO 27001.

• At least 5 years building and operating production infrastructure on AWS, with uptime and cost ownership
• Experience with Terraform, CDK, or similar infrastructure-as-code tools and reusable modules
• Experience operating containerized AWS services such as ECS, EKS, or Lambda
• Experience building and owning CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment strategies, and rollback
• Hands-on experience with logs, metrics, traces, SLOs, and alerting
• Knowledge of IAM least privilege, network design, secrets management, and encryption
• Ability to write tooling and automation in Python, Go, or a similar language
• Clear communication during incidents and comfort making pragmatic trade-offs on a small team

Responsibilities

• Build reusable platform templates, paved roads, and self-service tools for engineers
• Design and operate AWS infrastructure as code
• Build CI/CD pipelines with testing, security scanning, preview environments, and rollback
• Develop cost-effective logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting
• Implement identity and access controls, secrets management, encryption, and audit trails
• Build autoscaling, backups, disaster recovery, and incident response capabilities
• Automate production changes and avoid manual changes to live systems
• Track and manage cloud costs by service and customer
• Lead incident response and blameless postmortems, and address root causes
• Establish infrastructure standards and shape the platform
