Senior Platform Engineer

Job summary

Build and operate the AWS cloud platform that enables engineers to ship software safely and frequently for a product serving complex capital projects, including data center infrastructure. Design infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, observability, security controls, and disaster recovery; create self-service tools, manage cloud costs, and lead incident response. The role emphasizes enterprise security and compliance, including standards such as SOC 2 and ISO 27001.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of experience building and operating production infrastructure on AWS, with responsibility for uptime and cost.
• Strong infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform, CDK, or similar tools, including reusable modules.
• Experience operating containerized AWS services such as ECS, EKS, or Lambda.
• Experience building and owning CI/CD pipelines, including automated testing, deployment strategies, and rollback.
• Practical observability experience with logs, metrics, traces, SLOs, and alerting.
• Knowledge of cloud security, including least-privilege IAM, network design, secrets management, and encryption.
• Ability to write Python, Go, or similar code for tooling and automation.
• Clear communication during incidents and comfort making pragmatic trade-offs on a small team.

Responsibilities

• Design reproducible AWS environments as code, including networking, compute, databases, and storage.
• Build CI/CD pipelines with automated tests, security scanning, preview environments, and rollback.
• Implement cost-aware logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
• Build identity and access controls, secrets management, encryption, and audit trails for enterprise compliance.
• Implement autoscaling, backups, disaster recovery, and incident response.
• Create reusable templates, paved roads, and self-service tools for engineers.
• Automate production changes and avoid manual changes to live systems.
• Track and manage cloud costs by service and customer.
• Lead incident response and blameless postmortems, and address root causes.
• Establish infrastructure standards and help shape the platform.
