Senior Platform Engineer (Kubernetes & Linux) (m/w/d)

Job summary

Responsible for the stable, secure, and traceable operation of platform and server infrastructure, including Kubernetes clusters, physical and virtual Linux servers, and NAS systems. This role involves designing, operating, and developing the infrastructure with a focus on availability, security, automation, and auditability. The engineer will also play a central role in establishing security and compliance structures as a KRITIS service provider.

Qualifications

• Several years of experience operating complex Linux infrastructures
• Excellent practical experience with Kubernetes in production
• Deep understanding of Linux systems, networks, and storage
• Excellent Bash skills and a clear automation mindset
• Profound knowledge in IT security, including system and network hardening, access control, identity concepts, logging, monitoring, and incident response
• Experience or strong interest in security and compliance topics such as C5, ISO 27018, or comparable standards
• Ability to implement security and compliance requirements pragmatically and technically soundly
• Structured and responsible working style, building systems to withstand audits
• Enjoy building things cleanly from scratch and operating them long-term
• Very good German language skills

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the stable, secure, and traceable operation of platform and server infrastructure
• Design, operate, and develop the infrastructure landscape
• Take ownership for a platform requiring 24x7 operation
• Provide 2nd level availability for infrastructure incidents
• Think holistically about infrastructure from the perspective of availability, security, automation, and auditability
• Play a central role in ensuring security is anchored in ongoing operations, not just on paper
• Collaborate closely with development, product, and external consultants
• Act as a technical contact for infrastructure, security, and compliance questions
• Operate, develop, and secure multiple Kubernetes clusters on virtual machines
• Responsible for Linux-based systems: physical servers, VMs, and NAS systems
• Build and maintain a stable, maintainable, and traceable platform landscape
• Automate operational, deployment, and maintenance processes
• Establish Security-by-Design, including system hardening, access concepts, secrets management, logging, monitoring, and traceability
• Technically implement requirements from C5 and ISO 27018
• Translate standards into concrete technical controls
• Build auditable structures, documentation, and evidence
• Handle incidents in the infrastructure context (2nd-level), including analysis and sustainable resolution
• Collaborate closely with external security and compliance partners
• Continuously improve the stability, security, and transparency of systems
