Senior Platform Engineer, Lab Infrastructure and Security

Job summary

The Platform Engineer builds and scales infrastructure for 10 global laboratories, supporting sequencing equipment, robotics, compute, and reliable expansion of sequencing capacity. The role spans network architecture and automation, AWS and Linux infrastructure, device identity and observability, and security engineering, including vulnerability management and incident response. Key technologies include pfSense, MikroTik, Tailscale, Terraform, Ansible, Python, and AWS.

Qualifications

• At least 7 years of platform, infrastructure, systems, or security engineering experience, ideally in physical production environments.
• Experience with Python, Terraform, Ansible, and CI/CD workflows using GitHub Actions.
• Expertise in routing, VLANs, firewalls, DHCP/DNS, VPNs, and high-availability architectures.
• Hands-on AWS experience with VPC, site-to-cloud networking, IAM, and containerized workloads.
• Strong Linux systems administration skills.
• Security engineering experience with web or API penetration testing, red teaming, vulnerability and dependency scanning, and incident response.
• Experience diagnosing infrastructure failures, restoring service, and supporting on-call production reliability.
• Experience using AI coding agents across infrastructure automation, development, and security testing.
• Experience with PKI, certificate management, and secrets management.
• Experience building metrics, logging, and alerting for production device and service fleets.

Responsibilities

• Design and scale networks for sequencers, robotics, and compute across 10 global laboratories.
• Architect and deploy networking for new laboratories and expansions, including 10Gb connectivity.
• Automate network provisioning and configuration with Terraform, Ansible, and CI/CD.
• Build and improve infrastructure for production hardware, compute, and storage.
• Maintain secure, automated device identity and access systems.
• Strengthen security across cloud infrastructure, web applications, and APIs.
• Operate vulnerability management for cloud infrastructure, laboratory devices, and application dependencies.
• Lead security incident response from detection and containment through resolution and postmortems.
