Job summary
The Senior Platform Engineer operates and continually develops the core infrastructure of a data and AI platform, enabling data teams to build and run data products independently and supporting secure AI workloads. The role develops Python platform services, automates Azure and Databricks infrastructure with Terraform, administers Databricks workspaces and Unity Catalog, and maintains reusable Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines. It also covers Azure architecture, monitoring, alerting, incident response, and platform cost oversight.

Qualifications
- Strong experience with Azure services and architecture patterns, including identity and access management with Entra, service principals, and Key Vault.
- Experience using Terraform in production Azure environments.
- Good knowledge of Databricks workspace and Unity Catalog administration.
- Strong software engineering skills, including packaging, testing, and using SDKs and APIs.
- Experience with cloud monitoring, alerting, and logging, such as Azure Monitor, and operating production services.
- Good written and spoken English.
- German language skills are desirable.
- Bash knowledge is an advantage.
Responsibilities
- Provide and automate infrastructure for data teams to build and operate data products using a Data Mesh approach.
- Develop and maintain Python-based core platform services, deployment tools, and automated standards.
- Manage Terraform-based infrastructure in Azure and Databricks environments.
- Develop Azure architecture for compute, storage, networking, and application hosting, with a focus on security, reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Administer Databricks workspaces, Unity Catalog, compute resources, and access controls, including environments for dbt and Azure Data Factory.
- Build and maintain reusable Azure DevOps pipeline templates and release workflows with quality gates.
- Manage platform monitoring, alerting, incident response, and cost monitoring.
- Help establish a secure, controlled platform foundation for developing and operating AI workloads.
