Senior Platform Engineer

Job summary

The Senior Platform Engineer builds and operates the AWS platform and developer tooling that enable product engineers to deliver software quickly, safely, and independently. The role owns the developer experience across CI/CD, local and preview environments, Terraform-based infrastructure, observability, and security guardrails, using technologies such as GitHub Actions, AWS, Terraform, and Dynatrace.

Qualifications

• Experience building internal platforms, tooling, or paved paths adopted by engineers, with evidence of improving team speed.
• Production-quality coding experience in at least one language, such as Python, TypeScript, or Go.
• Experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines, including caching, parallelization, and safe deployment strategies.
• Strong hands-on experience building and operating AWS infrastructure.
• Strong Terraform skills, including creating reusable modules for other teams.
• Experience with Docker and a container platform such as ECS or Kubernetes.
• Clear communication, strong documentation, and a collaborative approach to helping engineers succeed.
• Desirable: experience with internal developer portals or service catalogs, pull-request preview environments, AI-assisted development tooling, observability platforms, policy-as-code, cloud cost management, or Databricks on AWS.

Responsibilities

• Build service templates and golden pipelines that enable engineers to create, deploy, and operate services independently.
• Own and improve GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines for fast, reliable, understandable builds and tests.
• Provide self-service local development, per-branch, and preview environments.
• Measure and improve developer experience using DORA metrics, build times, and developer feedback.
• Document platform workflows and onboard engineers.
• Partner with engineers through consultation, design reviews, and adoption of platform patterns.
• Design and operate AWS foundations, including accounts, networking, identity and access, and security controls.
• Create reusable Terraform modules and templates, and automate provisioning, secrets management, and environment setup.
• Provide observability for logs, metrics, tracing, dashboards, and alerting.
• Implement policy-as-code, cost visibility, and secure defaults.
