Senior Platform Engineer (w/m/d)

Job summary

The Senior Platform Engineer will build and operate a secure, reliable cloud platform for a workforce management application used in healthcare and emergency services. The role covers platform architecture, Kubernetes and GitOps operations, security controls, automation, observability, incident response, and enabling other teams to share operational responsibilities. The platform runs on STACKIT and uses technologies including Terraform, Flux, Kyverno, Falco, Keycloak, and the Grafana stack.

• At least four years of experience operating production Kubernetes platforms.
• Strong practical experience with Kubernetes, GitOps, and Terraform.
• Experience with Kubernetes networking, DNS, TLS, and NetworkPolicies.
• Knowledge of policy-as-code, runtime security, vulnerability scanning, secrets management, OIDC, and identity providers.
• Experience building observability with OpenTelemetry and the Grafana stack.
• Experience operating stateful services such as databases, message brokers, and caches.
• Ability to document operational concepts, explain architecture decisions, and assess risks.
• Ability to share knowledge and work effectively with service providers and self-organizing teams.
• German proficiency at C1 level or higher.

Responsibilities

• Design the cloud platform architecture, operating model, and security concept.
• Operate and secure Kubernetes infrastructure, including hardening, patching, backups, and recovery.
• Implement infrastructure and application delivery using Terraform, Flux, Kustomize, and Helm.
• Maintain monitoring, alerting, incident and change processes, postmortems, and runbooks.
• Build a sustainable on-call rotation and enable colleagues to share operational duties.
• Coordinate with cloud partners and represent platform requirements to the cloud provider.
• Plan platform capacity, costs, and future service needs.
