Senior Software Engineer - DevOps

Job summary

This senior engineer role designs and develops highly available observability and alerting platforms for business-critical, 24/7 online services. The work includes scaling cloud and network infrastructure, automating operations, resolving production issues, guiding technical strategy, and mentoring engineers. The platform is migrating to an open-source stack including Mimir, Prometheus, Alerta, Alloy, Grafana, LibreNMS, Loki, and Tempo, running on AWS.

• Strong experience with Alerta, Grafana, Prometheus, Mimir, Alloy, and Jenkins.
• Strong experience with Python and Bash/Shell scripting.
• Production experience with AWS services, including EC2, load balancing, Lambda, SQS, SNS, S3, RDS, CloudWatch, and Route 53.
• Experience with Linux operating systems such as Red Hat, CentOS, Rocky, or Amazon Linux.
• Understanding of system metrics and their effect on availability and performance.
• Understanding of CI/CD practices and large-scale infrastructure design and support.
• Familiarity with high-throughput metric ingestion and distributed metrics storage or clustering is desirable.
• Familiarity with HTTP, TLS, DNS, or SNMP is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Architect and scale highly available cloud and network infrastructure.
• Design and develop software that meets complex product and business needs.
• Integrate monitoring and support tools.
• Diagnose and resolve operational issues raised by alerts or stakeholders.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and product and operational teams to gather requirements and ensure services are scalable and supportable.
• Improve engineering practices through automated testing, code reviews, workflow improvements, and strong software development lifecycle practices.
• Advance automation, infrastructure as code, and operational practices.
• Guide long-term technical strategy and observability roadmaps.
• Mentor and support junior team members.
