Senior Systems Administrator

Job summary

The Senior Systems Administrator at the University of Toronto will support the infrastructure and operational environment for Scholaris, Canada's national shared institutional repository service. This role involves administration, monitoring, maintenance, and continuous improvement of systems, focusing on service reliability, security, and performance.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of relevant experience in systems administration or platform support
• Extensive experience with Linux-based production environments
• Experience deploying and maintaining secure systems
• Experience supporting distributed systems in production
• Strong knowledge of operating systems, networking, and core infrastructure concepts
• Experience with configuration management and automation tools
• Experience administering web servers and load balancing technologies
• Experience with containerization technologies
• Experience supporting virtualization platforms using open-source technologies
• Experience supporting databases and backend services
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Responsibilities

• Design and implement new operating systems and server software
• Plan and implement IT network expansions and enhancements
• Analyze, troubleshoot, and test complex systems
