Site Reliability Engineer

Job summary

Build and operate distributed object storage systems that support critical cloud services across geographically dispersed data centres, focusing on reliability, scale, and availability. The role includes designing and delivering engineering projects, improving technical standards and automation, and responding to alerts through an on-call rota. The environment uses Linux storage technologies such as LVM, XFS, ext4, S3, Ceph, Gluster, and NFS, with development in Go, Java, Python, or Rust.

Qualifications

• Experience building, operating, and scaling distributed storage systems in private, public, or hybrid cloud environments.
• Ability to design, write, understand, and release code in Go, Java, Python, or Rust; Go is preferred.
• Understanding of Linux block, object, and file storage technologies, such as LVM, XFS, ext4, S3, Ceph, Gluster, and NFS.
• Understanding of Linux internals, networking protocols, and distributed systems.
• Experience with provisioning, data migration, backup and recovery, at-scale testing, disaster recovery, and capacity planning.
• Familiarity with configuration management or software delivery platforms such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or Spinnaker.
• Experience deploying, supporting, and monitoring services, platforms, and application stacks.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, microservices, and relational or non-relational databases such as Cassandra, Postgres, and RocksDB.

Responsibilities

• Build, operate, and scale distributed object storage systems.
• Own engineering projects and deliverables from solution design through timely delivery.
• Develop support for highly available cloud storage services by responding to alerts and escalations.
• Provide technical feedback and drive engineering standards across a distributed team.
• Automate manual operations and improve infrastructure tools and processes.
