Spacecraft Platform Engineer

Job summary

This role involves working on mission-critical technology for secure military communications satellites for the UK Ministry of Defence. The engineer will perform technical planning, system integration, verification, and validation, and develop innovative solutions to complex problems. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the North East space sector and work without direction, guiding major projects to completion.

Qualifications

• Fully conversant with spacecraft platform characteristics and performance
• Able to understand and perform relevant analysis as required
• Significant related experience
• Post-secondary degree or training in a related discipline (desirable)
• Experience in satellite design (particularly desirable)
• Full knowledge of industry and company practices
• Demonstrate expertise in the field and related disciplines

Responsibilities

• Perform technical planning, system integration, verification, and validation for total systems
• Conduct cost, risk, supportability, and effectiveness analyses for total systems
• Ensure logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total system solutions
• Acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints in system solutions
• Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, and detailed trade studies
• Conduct requirements allocation and interface definition studies
• Translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications
• Develop innovative solutions to complex problems consistent with organizational objectives
• Work without direction
• Guide major projects to completion
• Function in a leadership role
• Actively contribute to the development of new concepts
• Be responsible for all aspects of the spacecraft platform (bus) and its performance
• Represent spacecraft platform performance to the customer
