Job summary

Own the infrastructure that builds, releases, and deploys software to distributed nodes controlling physical equipment. The role spans a 40-package monorepo targeting three architectures, reproducible builds and shared caching, end-to-end CI/CD, and staged fleet deployments that must scale from about 80 nodes to thousands of devices. It also establishes pipeline health signals, secure build-runner practices, safe failure and rollback paths, and infrastructure adoption across teams.

Qualifications

  • Owned a multi-package build system with multiple build targets and can explain its problems and improvements.
  • Owned an end-to-end CI/CD system, including rollback and deployment safety improvements.
  • Strong understanding of build reproducibility, cache keys, and incorrect artifact risks.
  • Strong understanding of fleet deployment, digest-based deployment, drift, and safe rejoining of offline nodes.
  • Experience designing concrete failure paths, including timeouts, safe states, and actionable diagnostics.
  • Track record of diagnosing production incidents to root cause and implementing measured fixes.
  • Track record of driving adoption of infrastructure built for other engineers.
  • Fluency with AI tools in daily engineering work and accountability for accepted decisions, code, and results.
  • Ability to work onsite five days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Own the build system for a 40-package monorepo targeting three architectures.
  • Own CI/CD end to end, including rollback, and improve push-to-green time, queue depth, and fetch error rate.
  • Design and operate fleet deployments with immutable artifacts, staged rollouts, version handshakes, drift detection, and independent abort paths.
  • Define pipeline health signals, thresholds, and operational runbooks; automate checks and remediation where useful.
  • Secure build runners using short-lived credentials, scoped IAM, credential rotation, and CI secret scanning.
  • Coordinate with IT on GitLab, network, and identity boundaries.
  • Measure and reduce manual engineering toil.
  • Drive adoption of infrastructure across teams.
  • Improve reliability by encoding incident learnings into systems.
