Staff Platform Engineer

Job summary

The Staff Platform Engineer manages and scales enterprise backup and recovery infrastructure across hybrid environments to protect data and support business continuity. The role administers Commvault, monitors system health and storage utilization, resolves backup and restore issues, and designs and tests disaster recovery strategies. It also automates backup tasks with Python, PowerShell, and Ansible and contributes to capacity planning and architecture reviews.

Qualifications

• Expert hands-on experience with Commvault, DataDomain, Networker, CommServe, Media Agents, and client configurations.
• Strong understanding of backup policies, deduplication, catalogue management, and storage targets such as ECS, Pure, PMAX, and NetApp.
• Experience with Python, PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, and Terraform.
• Familiarity with monitoring and reporting tools such as Grafana and Prometheus.
• Platform engineering experience managing public or private cloud environments, such as AWS or VMware, or converged infrastructure and database platforms.
• Extensive experience in enterprise backup and recovery.
• Exposure to ITIL processes and change management.

Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain Commvault backup and recovery across hybrid infrastructure.
• Monitor system health, job performance, and storage utilization.
• Lead root cause analysis and resolve backup failures, restore issues, and performance bottlenecks.
• Support and mentor junior engineers.
• Ensure compliance with data retention and protection policies.
• Document backup configurations, standard operating procedures, and disaster recovery plans.
• Design and test disaster recovery strategies.
• Automate routine backup tasks using Python, PowerShell, and Ansible.
• Participate in capacity planning and architecture reviews.
