Staff Platform Engineer, Data Storage - Core

Job summary

Own production PostgreSQL/RDS databases and Kafka/MSK streaming infrastructure, providing reliability and technical partnership to multiple product teams. Lead query and schema reviews, performance tuning, incident response, GitOps-managed topic operations, and Debezium CDC pipeline reliability, while building self-service tooling with Python, Terraform, and SQL. Drive platform stability, capacity and cost optimization, and infrastructure standards.

Qualifications

• At least 8 years of platform, infrastructure, or database engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience operating PostgreSQL/RDS in production at scale.
• Strong Python skills, with 5+ years of daily use preferred.
• Production experience operating Kafka, including topic management and CDC or event-streaming pipelines.
• Strong SQL skills, including query performance diagnosis and schema review.
• Working knowledge of Terraform.
• Experience owning database reliability across multiple downstream teams.
• Strong cross-team communication and technical partnership skills.

Responsibilities

• Own production PostgreSQL/RDS database reliability for multiple product teams, including query reviews, schema change approvals, performance tuning, and incident triage.
• Operate and evolve Kafka/MSK streaming infrastructure, including GitOps-managed topic lifecycles, cluster health, and Debezium CDC pipeline reliability.
• Build and maintain self-service tooling for provisioning database and streaming resources.
• Lead platform stability work, operator and version upgrades, root-cause fixes, and capacity and cost optimization.
• Serve as a technical escalation point for incidents involving shared infrastructure, including replication lag, connection exhaustion, and CPU or throughput issues.
• Represent the platform team in cross-organization infrastructure initiatives and standards efforts.
• Mentor engineers and participate in on-call rotations.
