Staff Software Engineer, Site Reliability Engineering, Google Distributed Cloud

Job summary

This site reliability engineering role builds and operates reliable, large-scale distributed systems for a customer-operated cloud platform designed to meet stringent sovereignty requirements. The work spans service design, deployment, monitoring availability and performance, capacity planning, automation, and incident response, with technologies including Kubernetes, Golang or Python, Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and Alertmanager.

Qualifications

• At least 8 years of software development experience in one or more programming languages.
• At least 3 years of experience leading projects.
• At least 3 years of experience designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems.
• Experience administering, debugging, and scaling Kubernetes clusters in enterprise production environments.
• Experience applying SRE principles, including defining SLIs/SLOs, reducing toil, and conducting root cause analysis.
• Experience configuring and using monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and Alertmanager.
• Proficiency in Golang or Python for tooling, infrastructure controllers, and operational automation.
• Strong foundation in Linux/UNIX internals and networking concepts.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Improve services throughout their lifecycle, from design and deployment to operation and refinement.
• Support launches through system design consulting, software platforms and frameworks, capacity planning, and launch reviews.
• Monitor availability, latency, and overall system health.
• Scale systems through automation and improve reliability and operational velocity.
• Respond to incidents sustainably and conduct blameless postmortems.
