Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of software, systems, or site reliability engineering experience, including production ownership of critical distributed services and technical reliability leadership.
  • Experience defining SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets and applying them to engineering and release decisions.
  • Knowledge of asynchronous and event-driven architectures, retries, idempotency, backpressure, eventual consistency, and failure containment.
  • Experience leading high-severity incidents, root-cause analysis, and blameless post-incident reviews through corrective action.
  • Experience with logs, metrics, traces, profiling, load testing, and capacity planning.
  • Experience with AWS services, Terraform or CDK, and CI/CD with progressive delivery and rollback.
  • Strong coding skills in Go, Java, Python, TypeScript, or a comparable language.

Responsibilities

  • Own reliability strategy and define SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets for critical services and user journeys.
  • Set operational readiness standards for availability, performance, recoverability, and secure operations.
  • Develop observability standards, dashboards, alerts, synthetic checks, and shared reliability tooling.
  • Review and improve architectures, designs, and code for failure handling, overload, idempotency, backpressure, and safe degradation.
  • Implement progressive rollout, automated verification, rollback, and safeguards for configuration and schema changes.
  • Lead capacity and performance engineering, and test backup, restore, and disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Lead high-severity incident response and blameless post-incident reviews; drive corrective actions.
  • Reduce operational toil with automation, self-service capabilities, and reliable runbooks while preserving least privilege and auditability.
  • Mentor engineers in production ownership and promote shared team responsibility for reliability.
