Job summary

The Team Lead Cloud Operations & Platform Engineering is responsible for the reliable, secure, and scalable operation of SaaS products, particularly Java-based applications, while modernizing the platform toward standardized and automated operations. The role leads and develops the Cloud Operations team, manages incidents and root-cause analysis, and advances monitoring, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, and container-based platform engineering in collaboration with Development, DevOps, Security, and Architecture.

• Several years of experience operating business-critical SaaS, cloud, or platform environments.
• Previous team leadership or substantial technical leadership experience, with an interest in developing employees.
• Ability to shape structures and balance reliable operations with platform transformation.
• Practical experience running Java applications in production.
• Understanding of DevOps and Platform Engineering, with experience in Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, automation, monitoring, and observability.
• Experience standardizing and automating deployment, configuration, and operational processes.
• Familiarity with Linux-based systems, networking, reverse proxies, load balancing, and storage.
• Knowledge of security, backup and recovery, high availability, and auditable operational practices.
• Experience with container technologies; experience building and operating Kubernetes platforms is an advantage.
• IBM i/iSeries knowledge is an advantage.
• Very good German and good English.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Cloud Operations team and establish clear ownership and decision-making responsibilities.
• Develop team members through mentoring, coaching, and regular feedback.
• Ensure the stability, availability, performance, and security of SaaS products.
• Manage incidents, problems, and root-cause analyses and implement lasting improvements.
• Improve monitoring, alerting, and observability, and establish operational standards and service metrics.
• Build a modern, scalable platform for SaaS operations using container and orchestration technologies.
• Automate provisioning, configuration, deployment, and operational processes using Infrastructure as Code, containers, and CI/CD.
• Standardize and automate customer and application environments and ensure auditable SaaS operations.
• Prioritize operational stability, automation, technical debt, and platform modernization with the team.
• Collaborate with Development, DevOps, Security, and Architecture on platform architecture and deployment processes.
