Telecom & Infrastructure Engineer

Job summary

The Telecom & Infrastructure Engineer role is essential for the operation and maintenance of critical messaging and communication platforms, focusing on telecommunications connectivity, networks, and Linux infrastructure. Responsibilities include managing SMPP and SS7/SIGTRAN connections, troubleshooting network issues, and administering data center and office networks using Cisco technologies, while also supporting virtualized infrastructures with Proxmox and Linux.

Qualifications

• Completed education or training in IT, system engineering, or networking
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP and modern networking concepts
• Practical experience with Linux systems and structured troubleshooting
• Experience with Wireshark or similar packet analysis tools
• Ideally experienced in telecommunications with SMPP, SS7, or SIGTRAN
• Knowledge of SCTP, M3UA, or similar protocols is a plus
• Strong skills in switching, routing, VLAN, NAT, DNS, and network segmentation
• Experience with firewalls and VPNs, preferably Cisco or Palo Alto
• Knowledge of BGP and internet-edge routing is advantageous
• Experience with virtualization solutions like Proxmox or VMware
• Familiarity with storage technologies like Ceph or ZFS
• Independent, solution-oriented, and structured work style
• Strong teamwork and communication skills with high responsibility
• Very good English skills; German is a plus

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain SMPP connections with customers and carriers
• Manage SS7 and SIGTRAN connections with external telecom partners
• Analyze and resolve issues at protocol and connectivity levels
• Support onboarding, testing, and activation of new connections
• Troubleshoot SMPP, SCTP, M3UA, and other communication issues
• Administer data center and office networks based on Cisco technologies
• Manage firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, NAT, and network segmentation
• Assist with BGP routing and internet connectivity
• Analyze routing, latency, packet loss, DNS, and firewall issues using Wireshark
• Develop virtualized infrastructures with Proxmox, Linux, Ceph, and ZFS
• Administer and troubleshoot Linux systems and central infrastructure services
• Support backup, restore, high availability, and disaster recovery
• Contribute to documentation and on-call duties
